I have the full range of techniques to investigate swallowing disorders. Difficulties in swallowing can be due to disorders of the nervous control of oesophageal function or due to physical obstruction.

This obstruction to the oesophagus can be through benign causes such as peptic strictures caused by acid damage or due to malignancy.

The initial investigation of swallowing disorders is by endoscopy and if no obstructive cause is found then pressure studies of the oesophagus are required.  Both   of these sets of tests are offered at Shirley Oaks. Treatments for swallowing disorders range from drugs to injections with Botox to balloon dilation or insertion of stents to hold the oesophagus open. All of these treatments are offered at Shirley Oaks.
