Abnormal liver tests can result from a number of causes. The most common however are due to being overweight which leads to fat being deposited in the liver or excessive alcohol which also leads to fat being deposited in the liver. There are a number of less common but treatable causes which need to be ruled out, including infection with Hepatitis B or C, autoimmune hepatitis, and a number of hereditary conditions such as haemochromatosis in which too much iron is deposited in the liver.

As well as liver diseases structural abnormalities with the liver or bile duct such as cancer or gallstones can cause abnormal liver tests.

I can investigate and treat all of these conditions. I use state of the art imaging and blood tests to determine the cause of abnormal liver tests and treatment can offered for all of the various causes.
